Known as the "No.1 Technology Show in China", China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) is held annually in Shenzhen by the People's Government of Shenzhen together with such state bodies as the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Intellectual Property Office, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Since its debut in 1999, the fair has been successfully held for 18 consecutive sessions, and has become the largest, and most influential of its kind in China.

China has entered the new normal in economic development, characterized by growth rate change, structural optimization and power conversion. To move ahead with supply-side structural reform, improve economic performance and promote transformation and improvement, it is urgently necessary to cultivate new power for economic development through science and technology. In this context, the Innovation, Research & Development Exhibition comes into being. As one of important exhibition areas in CHTF, the Innovation, Research & Development Exhibition is supported by Guangdong Province, Shenzhen City, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, colleges and universities, research institutions and innovation centers, to demonstrate relevant high-tech products and products centering on a specific theme. By bringing together premium innovation resources, the exhibition serves as a platform for promotion, exchanges and cooperation, giving a boost to original innovation capability and vigour, and motivating mass innovation. A closer relationship is developed to enhance cooperation and collaboration among local governments, industries, universities, research institutions and innovators. What's more, a sound environment is developed to push forward innovation, and a combination of technology and economic development.

?With strong support of the Chinese government, the fair is held jointly by the People's Government of Shenzhen and state bodies, and has received several national leaders for visit and guidance. The first fair was announced open by the then premier Zhu Rongji, and the fifth session received the inscription from the then premier Wen Jiabao.
